Fifty years of trusted work that read as unconnected services
St Paul's Community Development Trust has served Balsall Heath in Birmingham for fifty years: a specialist school, a nursery, family support, community services and youth work.
The problem
Fifty years of trust, and no way to see it as one organisation. Each service had grown its own name, its own look and its own audience. People who used one had no idea the others existed, and the trust could not describe its own scale to the funders it depended on.
See
Workshops with staff, trustees and the community showed five services that had each grown their own name, look and audience. People who used one had no idea the others existed, and the trust could not show its scale to funders.

Shift
The services did not need to look identical, they needed to visibly belong to each other. We built an architecture where each keeps its own character and every one of them says St Paul's clearly enough that using one leads you to the rest.

Build
It started with strategy and a series of workshops, with staff, trustees and the wider community, to shape a clearer, more welcoming expression of the organisation. We then brought it to life through a new name, a flexible identity and a new website, unifying the many parts of the trust under one clear public-facing name while keeping it rooted in community, care and local pride.

Move
A brand system that feels more human, more coherent and better able to reflect the full scale of what the trust does across Birmingham. 1,100 people came to the launch of the new identity. In its first full year under the name, the brand and its five colour-coded service identities (Community, School, Nursery, Families and City Farm) were adopted confidently across the trust, from leadership to volunteers, and Together St Paul's went on to earn national recognition in Locality's Transforming Lives award.

In their words

“The brand they produced is unifying without being homogenising. It holds across our work while still letting individual programmes feel like themselves. It is being used confidently by our staff across all our programmes without ongoing agency hand-holding, exactly the outcome a charity of our size needs.”
