Pillo · Environmental innovation
A better material entering a market with no reason to listen
Pillo makes insulation from recycled MDF, manufactured in the UK. It performs better than what the market currently buys and diverts waste that would otherwise be burned or buried. The market had no particular reason to listen.
The problem
Specifiers do not change materials because something is new. Pillo had a genuinely technical proposition, built on circular manufacturing and real performance data, and every existing way of explaining it either lost the substance or lost the room.
See
The product’s real difference was invisible. The environmental innovation and the performance numbers were being explained in the language of the incumbents, so the material was competing on their terms rather than its own. The proof was there. The story was not.

Shift
Rather than argue performance against incumbents on their own terms, we made the material itself the story: recycled MDF, made in Britain, quietly doing a better job. It gives specifiers something to believe as well as something to measure.
